We're Up To Some Serious Planting

We are so excited to start off our 2018 planting season!

Did you know that we plant over 4 million plants every season? Here’s an inside look at how we fill our greenhouse for the season.

Our plants start off in individual plastic packaging. From here, the plants are removed and placed in a cooler until they are ready to be planted.

Our planting trays have soil that is mixed with a glue so that the plants are able to stay upright in the tray to help ensure that they form roots. The soil on these trays does not touch the side; this improves aeration.

From here, our staff plant either one or two cuttings per soil in the tray! The purpose of planting two per tray depends on how full we want the final plant to be.

After the tray is completed, it is placed on the conveyor belt where it is soaked with water. This soaking helps ensure the plants are fully in the soil.

From here, the plants sit on a rack and then are carted into the greenhouse where they are misted every 10 minutes. The amount of time between misting increases and the plants are then moved to their home in the greenhouse!

After the misting time decreases, the plants are carefully watched over until they begin to form roots!

We are so excited to begin filling our greenhouses full of beautiful plants and we can’t wait to see you when we open for the 2018 season!
