Care
General Maintenance: Can be repotted annually if the plant has outgrown it's pot. Can also be grown outdoors (but would need to be brought inside over the winter). Remove any old/dying leaves at the base.Temperature: Ideal temperatures would be 18°C to 24°C. Do not let the temperature drop below 10°C.
Light: Full sun or partial sun are perfect for this plant. Do not put in an area of low light as it will hinder growth. Ideally, this plant would be in a south-facing window. Can tolerate full sun, but watch the newer leaves as they are prone to sunburn.
Watering: Keep the soil moist for this plant during the growing season. Do not allow the plant to fully dry out. Water once the top 1-2 inches of the soil is dry. During the winter the plant will be dormant, so watering can be done less frequently. Banana plants will also benefit from extra humidity. This can be provided by a pebble tray or misting.
Fertilizer: Requires monthly fertilization with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season (May - Aug).
Soil: Needs to be well-draining. They prefer a loamy or clay based soil. However, any type of soil will work as long as it is kept moist.
