A true jewel among the Alocasias, the Scalprum "Samar Lance" will turn heads with its elongated, embossed foliage. The leaf blades are similar in shape to a sharp dagger, and are a stunning dark green with a tinge of blue, while new leaves are a light, lush green.

Care

General Maintenance: Can be repotted annually if the plant has become quite root-bound.

Temperature: Room temperatures that average 18-24ºC and no lower than 16ºC will prevent dormancy.

Light: Keep in a bright area, without direct sunlight (which can cause sunburn to the leaves). Keep in a well shaded area during particularly hot and humid days.

Watering: Water frequently, but in small amounts to keep the soil consistently moist (but not soggy). Water less frequently in the winter. This plant enjoys higher humidity, so consider using a pebble tray or humidifier.

Soil: Use a well draining, peat-based soil. They will benefit from the mix being more "chunky" to promote aeration of the roots. This can be achieved by adding perlite and/or orchid bark to the soil.

Fertilizer: Use a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season (May-Aug).
