The Alocasia 'Blizzard' is a rare and striking tropical houseplant, highly prized by collectors for its dramatic white and green variegated foliage. It is most commonly identified as a variegated form of the Alocasia odora or Alocasia macrorrhiza species, sometimes referred to as 'Batik Blizzard' or 'Snow'. The plant features large, heart-shaped or arrow-shaped leaves that are marbled, speckled, and splashed with a unique pattern of creamy white and deep green, giving them a "snowy" or "dappled" appearance. The dark green veins create a strong contrast against the lighter areas.
Light: Provide bright, indirect light to encourage healthy growth and maintain the variegation. Direct sunlight can easily scorch the leaves.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy or waterlogged. It is important to have a well-draining potting mix. Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Humidity: This tropical plant thrives in high humidity (ideally 60-80%). Regular misting, a pebble tray, or using a humidifier is recommended.
Temperature: It prefers warm, stable temperatures, ideally between 18–27°C (65–80°F). Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.
Soil: Use an airy, well-draining substrate rich in organic matter to prevent root rot.
Dormancy: Alocasia plants may go dormant in the winter, shedding leaves and requiring less water until spring.
Toxicity: Like other Alocasia species, the 'Blizzard' is toxic if ingested and should be kept out of reach of pets and children
