The stunning magenta flower spikes and seeds can be left to mature and harvested for a very satisfying gluten-free grain, used like quinoa.

Sow seed direct in a sunny spot when the soil reaches 21°C (70°F) or start indoors 3 weeks before plant out time. Planting Depth: 3mm (1/8in). Seed Spacing: 5cm (2in). Thin to: 45cm (16in). Row Width: 60cm (24in). Young leaves harvested at 20-30 days are mild tasting and tender, perfect for fresh mixed greens salad. Mature seed heads are a favourite target of both native and fall migrating birds.
