Blue Lake FM1 Pole Bean. This very popular, heavy yielding pole bean produces meaty yet tender 15cm (6in) long dark green pods. The straight, mostly stringless beans are renowned for both their fresh taste and freezing quality!

How to Grow

Beans tolerate a wide range of soil types. Their best growth is in light, organic, well-drained soil with a pH of about 6.5. Beans have a distinct dislike for cold, wet soils, so seed only after the soil has warmed to at least 16 C. Sow 2.5cm deep and 8cm apart in rows spaced 45 - 70cm apart. Keep beans evenly watered, particularly when the plants are in flower and when production of the pods starts. Avoid the use of high nitrogen fertilizer - nitrogen promotes excessive foliage. Pole, or climbing, beans need to be grown on trellises, open weave fencing, nylon bean netting strung between supports or on bamboo or pole teepees.
