Pinguicula vulgaris, commonly known as common butterwort, is a small, carnivorous perennial herb. It forms a basal rosette of bright green to yellow-green, narrow, tongue-shaped leaves covered in sticky glands that trap insects. The leaves curl inward as they digest their prey. Each rosette can produce one to nine leafless flower stalks, each topped with a single, violet, funnel-shaped flower with a spur.
