The 'Pineapple Tart' Potentilla (Dasiphora fruticosa 'Bailtart') is a vibrant, low-maintenance deciduous shrub from the First Editions® collection. It is particularly valued for its rare combination of bright chartreuse foliage and golden-yellow blooms.
Foliage: Features unique, lacy, vibrant chartreuse leaves that remain bright throughout the summer.
Flowers: Produces a profusion of rich yellow, buttercup-like flowers that appear in late spring and continue to bloom sporadically until the first frost.
Size & Habit: A compact, mounded shrub reaching only 18–24 inches (45–60 cm) in height and spread. Its tidy shape makes it perfect for low borders or rock gardens.
Hardiness: Exceptionally tough and cold-hardy, rated for Zone 2, making it a "bulletproof" choice for Saskatchewan winters.
Light: Requires full sun to maintain the bright yellow-green leaf colour. In too much shade, the foliage will turn a standard green.
Water: Highly drought-tolerant once established. It prefers well-drained soil and does not like "wet feet."
Maintenance: Very low maintenance. You can prune it back by about a third in late winter or early spring to encourage a flush of new, brightly coloured growth.
Pests: Highly resistant to deer and most common garden pests.
