Wild bergamot (Monarda fistulosa), also known as bee balm or horsemint, is a native North American perennial in the mint family (Lamiaceae), characterized by its aromatic foliage, square stems, and showy, summer-blooming lavender to pink flowers that attract pollinators. Stems: Square, hairy, and branching, growing to 2-4 feet tall. Leaves: Opposite, ovate to lanceolate, slightly toothed, and aromatic. Flowers: Tubular, lavender to pink, and clustered at the ends of stems, blooming from June to September. Flower heads: Showy, pinkish-lavender flowerheads (cymes) that are approximately 1 to 3 inches in diameter Pollinators: A favorite of bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Hardiness Zones: 3 to 9 Native Range: Most of North America, from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean.
