Care

General Maintenance: The Alocasia Melo doesn't mind being a bit pot bound, but roots poking out of the drain holes are a sign that your plant needs a bigger pot. Repot in the spring.

Temperature: 15 to 25 degrees Celsius is best.

Light: The Alocasia Melo is quite sensitive to direct light. This plant prefers partial shade, or bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun as it will leech the colour out of the leaves and cause burning. A spot a few feet away from a north or east facing window would be best.

Watering: Overwatering is the biggest threat to these plants, but so is underwatering. This plant wants a happy medium. When the top 2 inches of soil are dry, that is a suitable time to give it some more.

Soil: An aerated loamy and well draining soil is suitable. Avoid regular potting soil unless you can mix it with peat, perlite, or compost to increase drainage and aeration.

Fertilizer: Monthly fertilizing during the growing season, will help your Alocasia grow well. You can use a general purpose houseplant fertilizer or foliage plant fertilizer, but dilute it to half strength.
