The Polyphylla Spiral Aloe, more commonly known as Spiral Aloe, is a rare stemless aloe that is unique due to its unusual growing pattern. They grow in perfect spirals with 5-6 'sets' of leaf rows that meet in the center of the spiral. Spiralling begins when the plant is 8in-12in in diameter.

Care

General Maintenance: Repot only when rootbound. Prone to root rot.

Temperature: Mature plants are said to be able to handle temperatures down to -12°C, but younger plants should be protected from frost. These aloe are not as heat tolerant as other varieties, and will start to decline with temperatures above 27°C. Ideal temperature is around room temp (21°C - 23°C).

Light: Bright light, but mostly indirect. Dappled morning sun will have this plant thriving, but protect from direct afternoon sun.

Watering: Allow the soil to completely dry out before watering, and then water thoroughly. Do not water too often and water even less in the winter.

Fertilizer: Fertilize sparingly. 2-3 times during the growing season (May - Aug). Use a balanced liquid fertilizer.

Soil: Use a cactus soil mix or a regular potting soil with added perlite to improve drainage.
