Thai Banana plants can grow to be about 20 feet in height, and start out green, but after a few months the trunk and petioles turn a dark brown. This variety is not only cold hardy, but disease and wind resistant too, and are amazing to watch develop.

Care
General Maintenance: If you wish to grow your banana in a container, remember that the looser the roots, the taller and healthier the plant. Start with a container that is at least a foot deep (30 cm.) and 18-24 inches (46-61 cm.) across.Temperature: Thai Banana plants prefer it to be 19 degrees Celsius during the night, but around 27 to 35 degrees Celsius during the day. In cooler climates, you will want to bring the plants inside during the cooler months, especially winter.
Light: These bananas prefer lots of sunlight, often at least 12 hours worth of bright light. New plants are susceptible to leaf burn, so you will want to gradually acclimate the plant to more and more sunlight over a week or two, to avoid stress.
Watering: While these plants do want regular watering, be careful to not over water a banana plant. The suggested amount is 1 to 2 inches of water per week. Root rot from cold, wet soil will easily kill off your plant.
Soil: A well draining, moist, richly organic soil is the most suitable for this plant.
Fertilizer: Bananas are heavy feeders and should be fed a high nitrogen organic fertilizer. Fertilize sparingly at least 6 inches away (15 cm.) from the base of the plant, three times per year with a slow release 15-5-10 fertilizer.
