Care

General Maintenance: Deadhead as needed. If kept outside during the summer, cut back before the frost and then bring inside for the winter. Repot young plants as needed, but established plants only need repotting every couple years. This is generally done to replace the soil for nutrients, rather than for root/plant growth.

Temperature: Room temperatures are fine. Avoid prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures.

Light: A bright location, but without direct sunlight.

Watering: Prone to root rot, so water only once the top layer of soil has become dry. They tend to dislike dry locations, so keep away from heat vents, fireplaces, etc. They also do not like constantly wet leaves so keep away from overly humid areas such as bathrooms.

Fertilizer: Use a standard houseplant fertilizer once a month during the growing season and while flowering.

Soil: Any soil will work as long as it is well-draining, since begonias are prone to root rot. They tend to prefer soils containing peat moss and perlite.
