The Bird of Paradise is a highly sought-after plant that every plant collector should have their eyes on. The large, glossy, dark green leaves are beautiful in themselves, but are even more stunning when they are beside this plant's distinctive flowers. The blooms are where they get their name, as they are quite crane-like in shape. This specific variety has yellow flowers.

Care

General Maintenance: Repot in the late winter/early spring if the plant is rootbound. Be very careful with this plant as you repot it, as it is susceptible to damage while being moved. This plant can be propagated by seed or division.

Temperature: Prefers a temperature range between 21ºC - 32ºC but will tolerate temperatures as low as 13ºC.

Light: This plant needs fairly bright light conditions all year round but prefers indirect/filtered light. Too much sunlight will damage the foliage.

Watering: During the summer months the soil should be kept consistently moist, and during winter allow the soil to dry out slightly between watering. This plant will do fine in average household humidity during the summer but may require the occasional misting during the drier winter.

Soil: This plant does well in most soil types. An average potting soil will work well.

Fertilizer: Use a balanced houseplant fertilizer twice a month during the spring and summer months and reduce to once a month during the winter.
