CareGeneral Maintenance: To maintain the bonsai characteristics of this plant, you will need to prune the plant regularly. Generally, it should be trimmed after every 6-8 new leaves to maintain the trunk and leaf size. Also, you may want to add a humidifier or pebble tray to increase the humidity for your plant.
Temperature: Thrives in normal household temperatures, between 15ºC-26ºC. Keep away from drafts and drastic temperature changes.
Light: This plant requires plenty of bright light. Indirect light is best, but it can handle some direct sun. Bonsai plants are not suitable for low light conditions.
Watering: Soil should be kept evenly moist, but not soggy. Bonsai plants will not tolerate being dry for significant periods of time. It is usually best to give them small amounts of water every few days.
Fertilizer: Feed with a liquid houseplant fertilizer once every 3 weeks during spring and summer. If growth does not stop in the winter months, you should fertilize once every 6 weeks. If growth does stop in the winter, this means your plant is in a dormancy period and should not be fertilized.
Soil: A well-draining potting mix is essential for bonsai plants to ensure that excess water is not sitting at the roots. Perlite and/or orchid bark can be added to any potting mix to improve the drainage.
