Crabapple, 5 gal, Flowering, Green Wall®

The 'Green Wall' Crabapple (Malus × 'Jefwall') is an exceptionally hardy, columnar ornamental tree prized for its extremely narrow growth habit and vibrant multi-seasonal interest. Foliage: Features dark, glossy green leaves that provide a lush summer look. Flowers: In late spring, fragrant clusters of white flowers emerge from distinct pink buds. Fruit: Produces tiny red fruits (approximately 0.5 inches) that persist on the branches through mid-winter, providing a food source for birds and adding ornamental value after the leaves fall. Autumn Colour: Leaves transition to striking shades of yellow or a coppery-bronze in the fall. Size & Habit: It is one of the narrowest columnar crabapple varieties, typically reaching 20 feet (6 metres) in height with a spread of only 5–6 feet (1.5–1.8 metres). Hardiness: Extremely cold-tolerant, it is reliably hardy to Zone 2 (some sources note Zone 3), making it ideal for the Canadian prairies. Light: Requires full sun for optimal flowering and density. Soil: Highly adaptable to various soil types and pH levels but prefers moist, well-drained conditions. Maintenance: Generally low maintenance; occasional pruning is best done in late winter after the threat of extreme cold has passed. Pollination: Can serve as a pollinator for any fruiting apple trees if planted within 200 feet. Pest/Disease Resistance: Displays good disease resistance, though it can be susceptible to fire blight.
