Care
General Maintenance: You can enhance the number of blooms you get from your plant, by removing old and dying flowers regularly. If you do bring your plant indoors for the winter, repot it in the spring into a slightly bigger container. Crossandra love a humid environment; you can raise the humidity for indoor plants by placing them on a tray of pebbles that is filled with water, as long as the water doesn't touch the bottom of the pot.Temperature: 10 to 26 degrees Celsius is best, although they would obviously prefer the early 20s always.
Light: These plants thrive in bright, indirect sunlight, but do not expose them to direct sunlight in the summer. However, during the winter, provide as much light as possible, such as a sunny window.
Watering: During the growing season, water frequently and don't allow the soil to dry out. They like a slightly moist, but not soggy, soil at all times. Reduce watering in winter.
Soil: A rich, peat based, fast draining potting soil is ideal.
Fertilizer: Feed your crossandra with a weak liquid fertilizer every two weeks throughout the growing season. Cut fertilizer back to once a month in the winter.
