Cryptanthus are a type of terrestrial bromeliad that are very easy to care for, and stay small so they're perfect for an unusual plant in the office or in a small space! Their stripey, textured flat leaves grow in many different stunning colours. They grow in rosettes and only flower once, but they will produce many many pups to fill out any size of pot.

Care

General Maintenance: Be careful of the edges of their leaves, they are sharp and serrated.

Temperature: Indoor temperatures are perfect, as they like to stay between 18°C and 24°C.

Light: Bright indirect light is ideal as too much sunlight may cause the leaves to burn. Some partial sun is okay, as long as it is not very strong.

Watering: These plants like to grow in humid environments, so a humidity tray may be necessary. Water once the top 1-2 inches of soil is dry. Bottom watering is preferred if none of the soil is exposed.

Fertilizer: A very diluted fertilizer once every 3-4 weeks will help these guys grow. Don't over fertilize or it may cause chemical burns on the leaves.

Soil: Any well-draining soil mixture will do well for these plants. Any added aeration (via perlite, orchid bark, etc.) will make them very happy as well. The pH balance should be between 6.0 and 4.0 for best growth.
