Dogwood, 2 gal, Siberian Variegated

The Siberian Variegated Dogwood (Cornus alba 'Sibirica Variegata') is a versatile and extremely cold-hardy deciduous shrub, prized for its year-round ornamental appeal, particularly in northern climates like Saskatchewan. Foliage: Dark green leaves with creamy-white margins. In late summer and autumn, the variegation often takes on shades of pink and red before turning an outstanding scarlet. Winter Stems: After the leaves fall, the plant reveals bright, vivid red branches that provide a stark, beautiful contrast against winter snow. Flowers & Fruit: Small clusters of creamy white flowers bloom in late spring, followed by attractive powder-blue to white berries in mid-to-late summer. Dimensions: Typically grows to a mature height and spread of 5 to 7 feet (1.5–2.1 m) with a rounded habit. Hardiness: Rated for USDA Zone 3 (as low as -40°C), making it exceptionally reliable for prairie winters. Sunlight: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. While adaptable to shade, full sun exposure produces the most vibrant red stem color in winter. Soil: Highly adaptable to various soil types, including clay and poorly drained "boggy" areas; it can even tolerate some standing water. Pruning: To maintain the brightest red stems, it is recommended to prune out one-third of the oldest branches to the ground each year in late winter or early spring.
