The Staghorn Fern is a very unique looking plant with fronds similar to that of the antlers of their namesake. They have 2 different types of fronds, the antler fronds and shield fronds. Shield fronds are round and flat and lay near the base of the plant. They grow in green but turn brown with maturity. The shield fronds add stability as these plants are epiphytic, meaning they can grow without soil on the sides of trees in nature and mounted to wood in your home!
The Dutch Staghorn has pale, silvery fronds that fall beautifully over the edge of the hanging basket.

Care
General Maintenance: Staghorn ferns are epiphytic, and can be mounted onto a plaque or piece of wood on the wall. If you want to do this, cover their root system with sphagnum moss, then ornamental moss and tie it on using fishing line or other invisible string. Then mount on the wall! When watering these, just submerse in water once a week.Temperature: Prefers temperatures around 21°C, and will not withstand temperatures below 13°C for long.
Light: Your plant will appreciate a bit of time in the morning sun, but too much sun can cause leaf scorching. For most of the day, keep your plant in a bright spot with indirect/filtered sunlight. These plants will do well with a fairly low amount of light, but they thrive best with a bit of sun.
Watering: Ferns do not like to dry out, so keep your soil evenly moist at all times. Ensure that your pot has good drainage to avoid your plant getting waterlogged. These plants enjoy some humidity and will do well with being misted every day or two. Water slightly less during the winter.
Soil: Prefers a light, well-draining, organically rich soil. Something peat-based and mixed with perlite is a good choice.
Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer every 3 weeks during the growing season (April to August).
