Ficus Elastica, commonly known as the Rubber Tree, is a stunning variety of ficus that has broad, thick and shiny leaves. The white, milky sap inside is commonly referred to as latex, and was originally used to make rubber. The Mini Burgundy variety has stunningly dark green leaves that unfurl from a beautiful red stalk and is a compact variety of the standard. The leaves are decorated simply with a line of white dots on both sides of the top of each leaf.

Care

General Maintenance: Repot every spring into one size larger to encourage growth. To keep them smaller, repot your rubber tree every 2-3 years (depending on how root bound, do not let become too root bound as they will become stressed).

Temperature: Does well in temperatures between 15°C - 30°C.

Light: This plant will grow best with bright, indirect light throughout the day. They will tolerate moderate to low lighting indoors, but their foliage will be less vibrant.

Watering: Water once soil becomes dry to the touch, and thoroughly water until water drains from the bottom of the pot. Allowing the plant to get too dry may lead to leaves dropping. Will do better if humidity is fairly high, which can be achieved via a pebble tray or misting.

Soil: Does well in any general houseplant soil mix, as long as it is well-draining.

Fertilizer: Fertilize once a month during the growing season (May - Aug) with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
