Care
General Maintenance: You will need some patience, as these plants need to be around 3 years old before you can begin to harvest leaves for tea. However, they are often grown as ornamentals.Temperature: If you don't live in Zone 8 (a warmer zone), don't worry. These shrubs grow nicely in a greenhouse, or else in a pot that you can bring in when colder weather arrives.
Light: These tea plants love a lot of bright, indirect light.
Watering: Be sure to keep the plant well watered, but ensure the roots are not becoming water logged, so if you are growing it in a pot, make sure it has proper drainage holes!
Soil: These small shrubs like well drained and sandy soil that is on the acidic side. If you are going to grow your tea in a container, add some sphagnum moss to the well draining potting mix.
Fertilizer: Tea plants really don't require fertilizer and can be quite sensitive, so if you do decide to give it a bit of food during growing season, make sure its well diluted and do not get any on the leaves.
