Maple, 2 gal, Amur , Emerald Elf

The 'Emerald Elf' Amur Maple (Acer ginnala 'Emerald Elf') is a compact, dwarf cultivar of the Amur Maple. Size: A true dwarf variety, reaching a mature height and spread of approximately 5–6 feet (1.5–2 meters). Form: Dense, multi-stemmed shrub with a naturally rounded or upright-spreading habit. Fall Interest: Features small, lobed dark green leaves that "ignite" into brilliant shades of scarlet, dark red, and deep purple in autumn. Fruit: Produces abundant, ornamental bright red samaras (winged seeds) in late summer that often persist into winter. Hardiness: Exceptionally hardy, rated for Zones 2b to 3, making it ideal for the Canadian prairies. Sunlight: Best in full sun to partial shade; full sun exposure is necessary to achieve the most vibrant red fall colors. Soil: Highly adaptable to various soil types (clay, sand, loam) and pH levels, though it may be susceptible to chlorosis (yellowing leaves) in high-alkaline soils. Pruning: Low-maintenance; if pruning is needed to shape or maintain a small tree form, it should only be done in summer when in full leaf to prevent sap bleeding. Growth Rate: Grows at a slow-to-medium rate of roughly 5–9 inches per year.
