Ninebark, 2 gal, Savannah Sunset

The 'Savannah Sunset' ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius 'LP1') is a compact, deciduous shrub prized in 2026 for its exceptionally vibrant and changing foliage. It is an ultra-hardy variety suitable for Zones 3–7, making it a reliable choice for the Canadian prairies. Foliage: The leaves emerge in spring as a crinkled, vibrant orange. Throughout the summer, they transition through shades of yellow and gold to deep red, eventually turning into a striking maroon or burgundy in the fall. Flowers: Clusters of delicate white to pale pink flowers appear in late spring to early summer (typically mid-June), attracting bees and butterflies. Dimensions: This is a compact cultivar, typically reaching a mature height of 4–5 feet (120–150 cm) and a spread of 3–5 feet. Bark: Like other ninebarks, it features ornamental peeling tan bark that provides visual interest during the winter months. Sunlight: Best color and density are achieved in full sun (at least 6 hours daily), though it can tolerate partial shade. Soil: Highly adaptable to various soil types and pH levels; it is drought-tolerant once established and thrives in both dry and moist locations. Maintenance: Generally low-maintenance. It responds well to rejuvenation pruning in late winter if needed.
