Orchids are a beautiful addition to any home with their stunning flowers and proud foliage. They grow arial roots near the base of the flower stalk which in their natural growing scenarios allow them to cling onto trees and like. They are true epiphytic plants, meaning that they can be grown without soil and on a plaque or on the side of other plants. Other epiphytes include bird's nest ferns, staghorn ferns, bromeliads, etc.

Care
General Maintenance: Orchids are not as difficult to grow as traditionally expected, just different! Repot once your orchid stops blooming into orchid mix. Always be gentle with their roots as they are fragile. Damage to the roots can cause the orchid to die. Keep in a pot with a lot of aeration, these plants need to be in a soil mixture that breathes, and doesn't retain too much moistureTemperature: Keep these orchids around room temperatures. Anything above 26 degrees Celsius can be detrimental, and temperatures below 18 degrees are also not good for them.
Light: Orchids love light, keeping them in an East or West facing window will allow them to thrive
Watering: Water thoroughly when the soil mixture is mostly dry. These plant are very prone to root rot, and hate having wet feet. However high humidity for orchids is a must. They will likely need a humidity tray to maintain proper levels
Soil: Orchid mix is a specialized mix that has a lot of loose bark and moss that doesn't get compacted and allows as much aeration as possible. Do not pot an orchid in a pot that doesn't have air holes as these plants must breathe
Fertilizer: An orchid mist fertilizer once a week during the growing season (April - August) will promote healthy and large blooms
