The Hope Philodendron is a self-heading plant, and it takes up loads of space, spreading out to five feet and more. It has shiny dark green deeply lobed leaves that grow three feet long. It also develops a trunk when matured, but the foliage does an excellent job of hiding it.

General Maintenance: Ensure your pot has adequate drainage to avoid root rot. Repot every 1-2 years as needed. Trim away any dead leaves, as necessary. Easily propagated from cuttings with nodes, or by division.

Temperature: Thrives in normal household temperatures, between 15º-26º Celsius. Keep away from drafts and drastic temperature changes.

Light: Can tolerate lower light conditions, but will grow fastest in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it may scorch the leaves.

Watering: Water thoroughly, then allow the top 50% of the soil to dry before watering again. Yellow leaves may indicate overwatering, while brown leaves may indicate that your plant needs more water.

Soil: Any well-draining potting mix, in a pot with proper drainage holes.

Fertilizer: Philodendrons are not heavy feeders, but will benefit from a balanced houseplant fertilizer every 3 weeks or so, during the spring and summer.
