Schefflera Amate (also known as an umbrella tree) features much larger leaves than most other Scheffleras, while still maintaing the same shape and structure as it's smaller relatives.  It's large, shiny green leaves make it the perfect statement plant to add to your home or office, while still being very low-maintenance.

Spread: 2ft - 4ft
Zone: 10-12
Pet Safe: Toxic to pets if ingested.

Care

General Maintenance: Repot once every 2-3 years depending on the amount of new growth each year.  Wipe leaves down with a damp cloth every few weeks, to remove any dust and debris.  Prune as desired to control size and shape

Temperature: Thrives in normal household temperatures, between 15º-26º Celsius.   Keep away from drafts and drastic temperature changes.

Light: Medium light is ideal, meaning that they like a lot of light, but not direct hot sun.  Can tolerate lower light levels, but will grow much slower, and will need to be watered less.

Watering: Water thoroughly, then allow to dry almost entirely before watering again. Do not water if the top 50% off the soil is still wet.  Ensure your pot has good drainage to avoid potential root rot.

Soil: Any well-draining potting mix will work well.  Avoid heavy/muddy potting mixes.

Fertilizer: Feed once every 3 weeks during the spring and summer months, using a liquid houseplant fertilizer.
