Schefflera arboricola 'Gold Capella' (also sold as 'Capella Standard') is a popular, variegated cultivar of the Dwarf Umbrella Tree. It is highly valued as an indoor houseplant due to its ease of care and attractive, colourful foliage. Foliage: The primary feature of the 'Gold Capella' is its unique, hand-shaped leaves (compound palmate) that feature a vibrant splash pattern of green and yellow/gold variegation. The leaves are glossy and oval-shaped when fully open. Growth Habit: It is a bushy, compact plant that can be easily pruned to maintain a desired height and shape. Indoors, it typically reaches between 3 to 5 feet (around 1 meter). Aesthetics: It brightens up interior spaces and is an effective air purifier, adding a lush tropical feel. Toxicity: The plant contains calcium oxalate crystals and is considered mildly toxic to humans and pets if ingested, causing oral irritation and digestive upset. Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. The variegated pattern will be most prominent with ample light; too little light can cause the plant to revert to solid green. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch. Water: Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry to the touch. It is relatively drought-tolerant but thrives with consistent moisture without being waterlogged. Ensure good drainage. Humidity: It adapts well to average household humidity levels. Soil: A standard, well-draining indoor potting mix is suitable. Temperature & Cold Tolerance: This is a tropical plant. It thrives in typical indoor temperatures (15.5–24°C / 60–75°F) and cannot tolerate cold or frost. The minimum safe temperature is 10°C (50°F).
