Scheffleras are best known as umbrella trees, due to their very unique shaped leaves that resemble an umbrella, as well as the long skinny stems that attach the leaves to the trunk.  This plant tolerates a variety of growing conditions, making it a great choice for almost any space.  It is also a great air purifier.

Care

General Maintenance: Repot once every 2-3 years depending on the amount of new growth each year.  Wipe leaves down with a damp cloth every few weeks, to remove any dust and debris.  Prune as desired to control size and shape

Temperature: Thrives in normal household temperatures, between 15º-26º Celsius.   Keep away from drafts and drastic temperature changes.

Light: Lots of bright light is ideal.  Can tolerate some direct sun.  Can also tolerate lower light conditions, but will grow at a far slower pace.

Watering: Water thoroughly, then allow to dry almost entirely before watering again. Do not water if the top 50% off the soil is still wet.  Ensure your pot has good drainage to avoid potential root rot.

Soil: Any well-draining potting mix will work well.  Avoid heavy/muddy potting mixes.

Fertilizer: Feed once every 3 weeks during the spring and summer months, using a liquid houseplant fertilizer.
