Spirea, 2 gal, False Spirea, Cherry On Top

The 'Cherry On Top' false spirea (Sorbaria sorbifolia 'Bococot') is a hardy, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub praised for its continuous, multi-season ornamental interest, particularly in cold climates (Zone 2a). It provides vibrant foliage and unique red seed pods that extend visual appeal through summer and fall. Spring: The fine-textured, fern-like foliage emerges a vivid coral-pink to red. Summer: The leaves mature to a light green with bronze tips and are topped with showy plumes of white flowers. Fall/Winter: The spent flowers transform into bright, fresh-looking red seed pods that persist from early fall through winter, offering a "cherry on top" effect and food for birds. Dimensions: It typically grows into a compact, mounding shrub about 4 to 5 feet (1.25–1.5 m) in height and spread. Hardiness: Extremely cold-hardy, thriving in USDA Hardiness Zones 2a to 9. Maintenance: A vigorous, low-maintenance plant that is tolerant of urban pollution and has few pest or disease issues. Gardeners should be aware of its potential for suckering Sunlight: Best performance in full sun to partial shade. Soil & Water: Prefers average to moist conditions and should not be allowed to dry out. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. Pruning: Best pruned in late winter to early spring to encourage new growth and manage the shape.
