a striking hybrid succulent known for its unique, architectural rosettes of thick leaves that intensify into a deep garnet-red or purple color when exposed to bright sunlight. The plant forms compact, lotus-shaped rosettes of plump, fleshy leaves. The leaves are naturally a forest or bluish-green but develop rich, deep red to plum-purple hues along the edges and tips when grown in bright light. The foliage often has a fine, silvery or "frosted" hair texture. It has a slow-growing, compact habit, typically reaching a height and width of about 3 to 5 inches (10-15 cm). Mature plants may produce clusters of small, star-shaped flowers (usually white or sometimes reddish) on short stalks during the spring or summer growing season.
Light: Requires abundant, bright light to full sun to achieve its signature deep red coloring. In lower light conditions, the leaves will remain greener.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot. It is highly sensitive to overwatering.
Soil: Use a very well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix, ideally amended with mineral grit like perlite, pumice, or coarse sand.
Temperature: Thrives in average household temperatures (around 18–29°C or 60–80°F) but must be protected from frost and temperatures below 4°C (40°F).
Fertilizer: Fertilization is generally not necessary, but a diluted succulent or cactus fertilizer can be applied once or twice during the active growing season (spring and fall).
