Weigela, 2 gal, Stunner

The 'Stunner' weigela (Weigela x 'Spring 2') is a striking, reblooming deciduous shrub prized in 2026 for its bold color contrast and compact habit. Foliage: Features sleek, near-black or dark purple leaves that provide a dramatic backdrop. Flowers: Produces vibrant, tubular bright pink flowers that "pop" against the dark foliage. Bloom Cycle: It is a rebloomer, offering a heavy flush of flowers in late spring with sporadic blooming throughout the summer and a smaller flush in the fall. Dimensions: Maintains a tidy, mounded habit, maturing to approximately 3 to 4 feet (90–120 cm) in both height and spread. Hardiness: Rated for USDA Zones 4 to 8, making it suitable for many Canadian climates, though it may require winter protection in the coldest parts of Saskatchewan (Zone 3). Sunlight: Thrives in full sun for the best flower production and the darkest foliage color; it can tolerate partial shade but blooms may be less abundant. Soil: Adaptable to various soil types, but prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Pruning: Low-maintenance. To encourage the best reblooming performance, lightly trim the plant immediately after the first spring bloom finishes. Wildlife: Highly attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees due to its nectar-rich, funnel-shaped blooms.
